Help stop the spread of viruses, like coronavirus (COVID-19)

At Herefordshire Council, we understand that residents may have concerns about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). We would like to reassure you that the government and NHS are well prepared to deal with this virus.

The council is monitoring the situation closely and coordinating with Public Health England. We are taking all possible steps to keep people safe.

A coronavirus is a type of virus. As a group, coronaviruses are common across the world.

Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a new strain of coronavirus that presents with flu-like symptoms including a fever, a cough or difficulty breathing.

To help keep people safe, we are advising people to:

  • Always carry tissues and use them to catch coughs and sneezes, and bin the tissue
  • Stay at home except for essential outings and key working
  • If you live alone and are displaying symptoms, self isolate for 7 days. If one person in a family displays symptoms the whole family must self isolate for 14 days.
  • Wash hands with soap and water frequently for at least 20 seconds, or, use hand sanitizer gel containing 60% or higher alcohol content, to kill germs.
  • Adhere to strict social distancing and shielding protocols.

Remind people to wash their hands frequently. Visits to your home to be limited to staff only.
